Today saw Jane and I travel to The Old Library at the Custard Factory, Birmingham.  We were playing for the Ladies Vintage Tea Party Islamic Help was holding in aid of their Smiles Better Foundation, supporting Acid Attack Victims.

There was a beautiful set-up with vintage tea cups, tea pots and plenty of cake for everyone.  The ladies turned up in 1940s/50s attire to continue the theme in the fitting venue.  Talks were given by specialists in the area about what work is being done to fight for this worthy cause and the inspiration for the campaign.  Information was given on how to support the worthy cause from walks, to donating and holding your own fundraising event.   A beautiful tea set cake was auctioned off with all proceeds going to the cause and stalls were set up selling handmade goodies inspired by all thing vintage!!

Jane and I gave a small performance including J.S. Bach’s Double Violin Concerto, First Movement and an Early Music Adagio movement, unknown composer.  The duo was received with excitement and upon finishing our set we were asked for another piece!!  Encores are always good fun!!

The Smiles Better Foundation has been set up to support victims of Acid Attack from all over the world,  not only supporting victims but campaigning for changes to be made the law around the world.  Islamic Help work in partnership
with Acid Survivors Foundation International (ASTI) to deliver and provide aid to those who have suffered from acid violence.

Islamic Help‘s ambassador is Katie Piper, herself a high-profile campaigner for the cause as she herself was also a victim of an Acid Attack.

I was touched to be involved in supporting a worthy cause, learning a huge amount about the tireless campaigning Islamic Help undertake.

Pictures of the event to follow.
